Cora Coralina

Cora Coralina

Cora Coralina, a baker who attended school only up to the third grade of primary school, created a poetics of everyday life, of simplicity, of small things. Her verses, so often delicate and profound, were only published for the first time when the author was 75 years old. Shortly before, at the age of 70, this amazing woman decided to learn typing on her own to organize her poems and send them to publishers.

Elis Saareväli (b.1980) is an Estonian artist based in Haapsalu, Estonia. She studied painting at the Estonian Academy of Arts, acquiring BA in 2005.

Saareväli is working with painting and mixed media, experimenting with the aesthetics and limits of painting. Her work is often inspired and uses a variety of found objects. Most of her paintings are monochromatic – the process of clearing the images and the search of documentary aesthetics has been important part of her artistic process. Her first personal exhibition was about the effects of antidepressants, from where Saareväli has developed a wider interest in examining mental exhaustion, memories, dreams and their relation to objects. She explores the environment in which life-management difficulties happen, and how people relate to and create the world around them. Saareväli's work is centred around series of solo exhibitions including the recent "Even Less"(2014) and "The Dark Times" (2012), both at Hobusepea Gallery, Tallinn; and "Dreams and Disasters" (2011), Art Hall Gallery, Tallinn.
